Singapore Trade Mission 2022


COURTESY CALL TO YAB PREMIER & DEPUTY PREMIER, SECOND MINISTER FOR URBAN DEVELOPMENT AND NATURAL RESOURCES AND MINISTER FOR INTERNATIONAL TRADE, INDUSTRY AND INVESTMENT

• The Singapore Trade Mission 2022 was initiated by the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) Singapore.

• The delegation of 37 people was led by Mr. Lee Chuan Teck, Permanent Secretary (Development) of MTI.

• The delegation involves both public and private sectors from Singapore.  Private sector such as Temasek, Sembcorp, Ensign and PSA International are also joining the courtesy call

• The objective of the delegation is to explore the potential opportunities for Singapore to collaborate with Sarawak in the following sectors:

(i) Renewable energy;

(ii) Hydrogen;

(iii) Carbon capture and storage;

(iv) Carbon credit;

(v) Digital economy and data centres;

(vi) Port; and

(vii) Agriculture

• Business matching and networking are also being organized with companies in Sarawak involved in the above sectors.

• Deputy Premier of Sarawak, Second Minister for Finance and Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development, YB Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah received a courtesy call at his office in Wisma Bapa Malaysia on 14 June 2022.  Together were his Deputy Minister, YB Dato Majang Renggi, Director of Economic Planning Unit Sarawak, Datu Dr Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel, Acting Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Infrastructure and Port Development, Mr. John Aten, Principal Assistant Secretary of Ministry of Infrastructure and Port Development, Tuan Haji Mustapha, General Manager of Kuching Port Authority, Mr. Robert Lau and other key personnel from the ministry.

•  Managing Director of Enterprise Singapore, Mr. Jeffrey Siow, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Temasek International and Vice President of Port Singapore Authority (PSA), Mr. Lee Peng Gee were part of the delegation. PSA shared their journey and experiences in port management, which was privatized in 1997.  Temasek International briefed on their venture in food security. 

• The delegate was briefed by Director of Economic Planning Unit Sarawak, Datu Dr. Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel on the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030 on the same day.  Mr. Lee Chuan Teck from the Ministry of Trade and Industry Singapore expressed interest to explore investment opportunities in food security, carbon capture storage, energy, data center, hydrogen and ammonia.  

• Business meetings were also held with Sea Horse Corp, Borneo Eco Fish, Kuching Port Authority, PPTEL and SDEC.

• Courtesy call to Minister of Modernisation of Agriculture and Regional Development and Deputy Minister for Energy and Environmental Sustainability was held this morning. 

• The delegation will pay a courtesy call to Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and Deputy Premier, Second Minister for Natural Resources and Urban and Minister for International Trade and Investment in the afternoon.
